Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed

The ability to develop a video game seamlessy is insignificant compared to the power of franchise relocation.

This article in the Post discusses the vagaries of updating a video game to include RFK Stadium, which hasn't been the home park for a baseball team, as the article puts in perspective, "since before 'Pong' was popular."

The EA Sports producer interviewed in the article characterized the process of incorporating the new Nats as "educated guesswork"---trying to figure out how the stadium will look, how it will play, etc. I don't know how long EA has been making baseball games; the first one I remember is Triple Play '97 (which, through the powers of marketing, came out in the spring of '96). Its franchise must go back further than that, though I don't really know. At any rate, I imagine EA could put something together incorporating several of the "cookie cutter" stadiums still in play back then (Busch hadn't even been remodeled at that point, too) and insert some of the historical research to make it somewhat RKF-specific.

It's the heavy-duty sim player for whom I have sympathy. I imagine predicting how RFK actually will play is an equally dicey proposition.

And then there's the baseball card cheese factor:

Topps, one of several companies that produce baseball cards, has one product on the market already that lists the team's players as Washington Nationals, though they wear their old Expos uniforms. But another line of cards that debuts next week -- the "Heritage" brand -- will have pictures of the players from their Expos days, but with new Nationals' uniforms
superimposed.

Yeah, that'll look good.
